Present: John Stevens (Community Development South East), Andy Bray (Southlanders), Mel Shaw (CD Coordinator Adur), Ruth(Community Planning Coordinator, LSPs), David Simmons (Adur councillour), Ian Lowrie (Adur Chief Executive), Alcira Ferrari (Health Services and waste prevention volunteer), Julia Carrette (Worthing CVS), Amina Chitembo (BME network), Tina Favier (Adur council), Dhara (Sostenga)
Apologies: Adrain Barritt (Adur CVS), Debbie Kenard
Need to add BME network into last meeting’s minutes of what we have to help us move forward.
CD workers in Adur have contracts ending March 2010 so urgent need to review these posts. CDSE is doing this separately from the work of this group, things like job descriptions.
Ruth mentioned a consultation matrix
Need to make the case for resourcing CD – two projects in Durrington have gone since the last meeting. Need to take the work of this group forward with agencies supporting.
Julia summarised the 2006 research profiling volunteering in Worthing – combined turnover of 56 million, majority held by 7 voluntary organisations, with the rest on 10-20,000 annual income. 26,000 volunteers. Two largest group were #1 elderly people, #2 young people.
We discussed structure of this group and how we communicate with each other. Felt fine to keep the membership of the group as it is. Want to be able to communicate with those doing grassroots CD work – visual, simple (but not simplistic) explanations to volunteer CD workers of what CD work is
Dhara to bring in range of materials that have already been produced and could be used
Also want to communicate to decision makers like councillours, LSP partners, parish councillours (Adur only), funders, senior management team in council. For them a short booklet was discussed.
Dhara and John to produce a draft for next meeting, which will also be circulated in advance and meetings/phone calls arranged to write snapshots of CD work across Adur and Worthing.
Ruth and Tina to work on increasing ownership from the LSPs, prime them for a later ‘independent’ presentation from John and Dhara
-
September 16, Worthing Together (LSP)
-
end October, Adur LSP
-
17 September joint Sustainable Communications Strategy meeting
Ruth and Tina will also ask LSP members what they would want in the short booklet
Tina to catch up with new Community Cohesion officer about what we’ve been doing
Julia will send template for Durrington Community profile
Julia to work on filling in the matrix of existing CD projects, pass it onto Mel who will then pass to Adrian to get a good picture of work going on across Adur and Worthing. Can be an appendix to the short booklet.
Dhara to forward some handouts that explain CD learning qualification routes, CD standards summary wheel, and ‘what CD is’ for all to see, but to aid Tina and Ruth working with LSP members.
Next meeting Monday 12th October 2.00-5.00pm, Adur Civic Centre
